Explore the Wild: Discover the Beauty of the Kruger National Park
Come to Shumbalala and experience the spirit of the lion. The guttural roars that seem to shake the night stars as you relax in comfort on the banks of the meandering seasonal Monwana River. The thrill of seeing the first massive pug mark in the dust. And then, that unforgettable moment when untamed Africa itself looks back at you with a piercing tawny gaze.
Set in a dry, signing savannah of Acacia and Umbrella Thorn, Shumbalala enfolds you in stome-clad luxury in the heart of an ancient tapestry of natural wonder, unspoilt and untainted by the world beyond.
Intimate and exclusive, with only four Superior Suites and the Presidential Suite to choose from, Shumbalala Game Lodge offers outstanding game viewing and bird-watching in the company of our experienced guides and rangers, or nestled in the comfort of your wing backed chair on your private viewing deck and private plunge pool. The Presidential Suite boasts two en-suite bedrooms, private lounge with indoor and outdoor fire places and an outdoor boma area featurning a private plunge pool.
Come discover the prides of Africa.
Thornybush Private Nature Reserve, has dropped their fences in February 2017 on the borders of the Timbavati. The adjacent reserve is unfenced on its Kruger boundary which means that the 14,500 hectare wilderness of Thornybush is now a part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Shumbalala is found in the centre of the Thornybush Nature Reserve. Situated on the banks of the seasonal Monwana river the camp is an unexpected oasis of luxury and comfort in the unforgiving heat of the African bushveld.
Intimate and exclusive, with only 4 stone-clad luxury suites to choose from, each with an indoor fire place and private viewing deck as well as indoor and outdoor showers and private plunge pools.
The 225 square meter luxury Presidential Suite boasts two en-suite bedrooms (one double, one twin) making this suite perfect for families (children on req.) or 2 couples travelling together.

After a sumptuous Breakfast is served either back at the camp or in the riverbed or bush, guests are offered walks to suit their interests and fitness levels and are accompanied by an armed ranger and tracker.
Walks allow guests a better chance to see some of the smaller creatures of the bush as well as an opportunity to learn more about the flora and fauna of the region, and to have a chance to follow tracks in more detail.
Our Shangaan trackers will enthrall you with their explanations of the medicinal and other uses of the numerous plants and trees along with tales of traditional folklore.
